About Doug Wickham
I’m a UX Product Designer that loves to solve problems for Users.
My career of 20+ years has taken me on a journey from Graphic Design and Creative Direction to my current role of Senior UX Product Designer. For the past 14 years I’ve worked for Qurate Retail Group’s brands QVC and HSN, designing, maintaining and improving their eCommerce platform experiences. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects for web and native apps to conceptual projects outside the normal realm of ecommerce/retail.
I love UX because it a great blend of creativity, psychology and science. I love coming up with the right solution and the part of the process where Sherlock Holmes would say “The game is afoot.” But I also enjoy the technical side of UX like prototyping concepts and getting them in front of some users. That’s where the rubber hits the road. I’ve learned you have to be comfortable with taking calculated risks and failing. That’s not always easy to do but that’s the best way to learn and make progress.
Saint Petersburg, Florida (The Burg) has been home for a while now, but I’m originally from St. Louis, Missouri. I did live in San Diego for a couple of years; I miss surfing but St. Pete is a perfect mix of the two places.
When I not working, I’m busy with lots of stuff. My wife and son keep me busy and I have a ton of hobbies. Hobbies are my Hobby to be honest, I just really like learning new things. My current list includes:
- Fishing
- Beer Brewing
- Cryptozoology
- Water Color
- Drawing
- Guitar
- Movies and Music
- Writing
- Meditation
- Weight Lifting
- Wood Working
I like working movie quotes into a conversation to see if anyone notices and sending Gifs in Teams chats. I figure if a picture is worth a thousand words then a movie quote gif in a conversation is at least worth two thousand, right?
